BOB PARLOCHA'S PICK:
A Love Supreme
Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra
Palmetto
JazzWithBobParlocha.com's Editorial:
John Coltrane's "A Love Supreme" is one of the most important recordings of jazz and one that drastically changed my way of thinking. While the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra's recording of the suite probably will not affect me in such a profound manner, listening to Wynton Marsalis' arrangements played by such a superb band brings me much joy. I strongly recommend this as a "must have". -- Bob Parlocha

PREVIOUS PICK:
A New Abode
Sila Cevikce
Steeplechase
JazzWithBobParlocha.com's Editorial:
It's comforting to know that interesting new jazz players are cropping up all over the world. Pianist Sila Cevikce was born in Ankara, Turkey. She studied classical music, but as a teenager became intrigued with jazz. On this, her first release as a leader, she performs with Rich Perry on tenor, Ari Hoenig on drums and two new names for me: Adam Armstrong on bass and Kim Bock on tenor for two of the eight tracks. It's a very potent quartet/quintet playing very interesting tunes. The only "standard" is Frank Loesser's "More I Cannot Wish You". All the other tunes are by Sila. This CD is not only good for listening, but also comforting because it gives me the feeling that the future of jazz is in good hands. -- Bob Parlocha
