While I have been aware of saxophonist Ralph Bowen for some time, for some reason the scope of his talent has not been evident to me until now. This is my loss, for I am greatly impressed with his work on this recording, particularly his writing, but also his playing. Trumpeter Ryan Kisor, pianist Orrin Evans, bassist Reuben Rogers and drummer Gregory Hutchinson help form a very tight quintet through eight originals and one standard. This is one of those recordings that will become a staple of my programming for some time.
